On 21 December, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Italian Republic signed an international agreement on relations between the Italian National Health Service and the Order’s health structures.
First international medical conference of countries of the mediterranean basin on rehabilitation therapies – organised by the Accademia Internazionale Melitense in Fort St. Angelo, Malta, under the distinguished patronage of the Grand Master of the Order of Malta and of the President of Malta.
The “Path to Peace Foundation”, established with the approval of His Holiness Pope John Paul II, has bestowed the “Champion of Peace” award jointly upon the three U.S. associations of the Order for their humanitarian action.

On November 23rd, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI) signed an Agreement which establishes the framework for the collaboration between the Order and the AECI with respect to the execution and financing of international cooperation programs of mutual interest, preferentialy humanitarian aid programs within the health and welfare areas, taking into account the Order’s presence throughout the world and the collaboration with other public or private organizations whose cooperation is considered to be of interest for the success of the projects.
At the invitation of His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain and Queen Sophia, the Prince and Grand Master, Fra’ Andrew Bertie and the Grand Chancellor, Amb. Count Carlo Marullo di Condojanni participated in the meetings of the Heads of State and Government of countries of influence at the time of the Emperor Charles V.
More than 2000 Knights and Dames, members of the Order’s ambulance corps and national and international structures from all continents arrived in Rome from 16 to 19 October to participate in the International Pilgrimage organised by the Grand Magistry within the framework of the Church’s Grand Jubilee celebrations.
Thanks to the understanding between the Grand Priory of Lombardy and Venice, the Foundation Donna Maria Marullo di Condojanni, and the Presidency of the Sicilian Region, the city of Palermo will host a major exhibition on the Order of Malta.
The Prince and Grand Master, Fra’ Andrew Bertie, received on an official visit the President of the Republic of Ecuador, Gustavo Noboa Bejrano, and his consort Donna Maria Isabel.
His Most Eminent Highness the Prince and Grand Master, Fra’ Andrew Bertie, received in solemn audience at the Magistral Palace in Rome the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Paraguay, Bolivia, Guatemala and Argentina.
