Unhcr appoints Order of Malta Germany (mhd) to Afghanistan aid task
Following a successful support operation in Bosnia, the Order of Malta Germany-MHD has been elected by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to take over responsibility for the rehabilitation of three Provinces in Afghanistan. The project has been set up to improve the reintegration of refugees or internal displaced persons.
It has a volume of around US$1.5 million and work will include the rehabilitation of water supply systems, village streets, health care facilities, the organisation of income-generating projects and the creation of workshops. All these ventures will be carried out on a cash for work basis.
Amongst the NGOs, the Order of Malta Germany-MHD has become one of the major contractors of the UNHCR.
