Refugees and Migrants: international meeting of operations managers in Munich
Delegates of the agencies working in France, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy and Germany, as well as representatives of the Order of Malta’s government, spent two intense days exchanging information and experiences.
The meeting focused on the expertise acquired by the Order’s agencies, the difficulties encountered in their respective countries, and the reinforcement of skill transfers to optimize the Order’s work in the countries of origin, along the main routes and in transit and receiving countries. In the latter, for example, last summer in Germany Malteser Werke made available 55,000 beds a day during peak demand.
In 2015, some million refugees and migrants bound for Europe entered into contact with the Order’s facilities. These included numerous unaccompanied minors, since the Order has acquired a specific expertise in this field, recognised by international governments and organizations.
A new meeting is scheduled for the same time next year.
