Bilateral Meeting Russian Federation and Sovereign Order of Malta
The Order of Malta’s Grand Chancellor Albrecht Boeselager received the Russian Federation’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleksander Grushko.
Numerous topics were discussed during the long and cordial meeting held on June 1st in the Order of Malta’s Magistral Villa in Rome. These ranged from bilateral relations, to the major international issues, relations between the Russian Federation and Europe, the economic and social effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Order of Malta’s work in some of the world’s most difficult areas.
The significant humanitarian activities for the weakest sections of the population, carried out since 1992 by the Order of Malta’s social centres in Russia, in particular in Moscow and St Petersburg, were remembered and appreciated.
Recalling over 300 years of relations between Russia and the Order of Malta, both parties agreed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of official relations, occurring in 2022, with an event to be defined in the coming weeks.
Also present at the meeting were the Grand Hospitaller Dominique de La Rochefoucauld-Montbel and the Secretary General for Foreign Affairs Stefano Ronca.
