    Order of Malta National Day in Italy

    The National Day of the Order of Malta in Italy was devoted to the promotion of health and solidarity. From 9 am to 7 pm, it was possible to have free blood-pressure tests and a doctor’s assessment in eleven Italian cities. Together with basic health information, the day was organized to publicise the Order of Malta’s manifold humanitarian and charitable works in Italy and another 120 countries .

    The VII Italy Summer Camp for Disabled Young Adults

    The VII Italy Summer Camp for Disabled Young Adults organised by CISOM, the Order of Malta’s Italian Relief Corps, and by the three Grand Priories of Italy, is underway. Yesterday, guests and volunteers went to Padua where 150 young people, the Grand Master Fra’ Giacomo Dalla Torre as well as civil and military authorities participated in the event.
    After the celebration of mass in the Basilica of Sant’Antonio, attended by the Prefect of Padua Renato Franceschelli, the Grand Master spent some time with young people from the camp and met CISOM – Padua Group EMTs and volunteers.

    The Grand Master’s State Visit to Cameroon

    Grand Master Fra’ Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto arrived in Cameroon for a state visit from 16 to 19 July. President Paul Biya received the Grand Master in Unity Palace, Yaoundé on 17 July. In the early morning, Fra’ Giacomo Dalla Torre visited the new apostolic nuncio, Monsignor Mario Murat. In the afternoon, the Grand Master went to the Yaoundé University. Here, during a ceremony, he was awarded a laurea honoris causa in Classics and Philosophy for ‘his work in these fields of study and for his humanitarian commitment’. The significant moment of the Grand Master’s visit was on Wednesday, when he went to a Central African refugee camp run by the UNHCR (UN High Commissioner for Refugees) in east Cameroon on the border with Central Africa, a country where interethnic and interfaith violence has forced over 400,000 persons to flee here.

    The Grand Master receives Cardinal Bassetti in the Castello di Magione

    The Grand Master Fra’ Giacomo Dalla Torre received Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, in the Castello di Magione on 8th June.
    The talks were carried out in an atmosphere of great cordiality and friendship. There were many shared points of view, including those in the recent address by the President of the Italian Episcopal Conference during the “Prayer Vigil for Italy” celebrated on 7th June in the basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Rome.
    The focus of the meeting was the importance and value of prayer, as well as some of the Order of Malta’s initiatives in the humanitarian field, such as in Lebanon where its association also has numerous programmes for the elderly, disabled, orphans and refugees. The spiritual aspects that motivate the Order of Malta’s works were also discussed.

    Lourdes has received the Order of Malta’s international pilgrimage.
    Among the over 7,500 participants – coming from 45 countries worldwide – were 1,500 sick and disabled pilgrims looked after by some 250 priests and 380 doctors and nurses.
