The students of the Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Artistica e per Geometri of Terni spent a special day in the magistral archives and library. Accompanied by the Professor of Cultural Assets Cataloguing, Maria Cristina Marinozzi, the young people were given the opportunity to consult the archives of the Order of Malta for their multidisciplinary project “Study of the Church of Sant’Alò in Terni”.

The study entails the analysis of the documents classified and conserved by the Order in the historical archives and records of the church and commandery of Santa Maria in Carbonara, Viterbo. This property came into the possession of the Knights of Rhodes in the first half of the 14th century and was then turned into a commandery. Between 1524 and 1528, the years in which Grand Master Philip di Villiers de l’Isle Adam lived in Viterbo, religious functions were often celebrated in the church of S. Maria in Carbonara.

During the day, Grand Master Fra’ Andrew Bertie had a friendly meeting with the students and their teacher, accompanied by the Keeper of the Archives and Library, Fra’ Elie de Comminges.

The Institute will be publishing the study with the scientific and technical contribution of the Order’s Archives and Library service.
