Financial support for doctors in Kabul

Financial support for doctors in Kabul

Malteser International’s commitment in Afghanistan has been confirmed for 2009. In 2008 alone, over 2300 patients suffering from epilepsy and leishmaniosis (a parasitic disease) were treated in the Kabul clinic financed by the Order of Malta’s Relief Corps. The clinic, which is run by the Triefenstein brothers, plays an important role in this sector as governmental structures are unable to cope with the need for these services.

Malteser International had to leave the country in 2007 following the murder of two of its staff members and the lack of even minimum safety conditions, but it still manages to provide medical assistance through measures such as these.
