The two soup kitchens run by the Order of Malta’s Spanish association in Madrid are working at full capacity: every day over 350 meals in the Topete kitchen and 140 in the san Blas one are served to the homeless. A service that has steadily increased over the past months when the temperature dropped considerably in Madrid.

The kitchens were launched, explains Marga Maiza, the association’s number two for humanitarian activities, thanks to donations by banks and private individuals for renovating the facilities, and by the cooperation with the Jesuits who help to provide fresh foodstuffs. The Order of Malta’s volunteers work shifts to ensure that meals are prepared and served every day.
