The Order of Malta’s Ambulance Corps (Malteser Ndihmon ne Shqiperi) promptly provided medical assistance after the recent floods in northern Albania, sending specialists, sanitary supplies, ambulance services, sleeping bags and food. Over 200 people, mainly Rom, have been rescued and assisted in an army base near Scutari.

Again at the request of the Albanian Ministry of Health, it is also offering psychological and social assistance to other evacuees in the same area, some 300 people from the villages around the Buna and Drin rivers, as well as in other communities only reachable after a 45-minute journey on the army’s patrol boats.

The Ambulance Corps’ fast response medical unit is active 24 hours a day, assisting evacuees from Obot and Dajc arriving along the road connecting Scutari, Murican and the frontier station with Montenegro.
