Services to resume as soon as possible

Work has already begun to clear the damage caused to the Malteser International-supported pediatric hospital in Aleppo by an explosion adjacent to the building on Wednesday. The bomb caused extensive damage to an entire floor of the hospital, forcing the facility to close. “We are relieved that there were no injuries caused to patients or staff at the hospital. What we have to do now is make sure that the damage is repaired as soon as possible, so that the clinic and our partner organization can resume their work as soon as possible,” said Janine Lietmeyer, Middle East Manager at Malteser International.

Malteser International has been supporting the pediatric hospital since July 2015 – paying the salaries of staff members, and financing the purchase of equipment including ventilators and incubators. Malteser International also provides medical care for around 300,000 people living near the Syrian-Turkish border at four basic health units operated by its partner organization. More than half of these are internally displaced people living in camps.
