The Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Government of the Republic of the Gambia have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening collaboration in the areas of humanitarian assistance, healthcare, food security, disaster risk reduction and volunteering.

The agreement was signed in Banjul, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by the Order of Malta’s Ambassador to the Republic of the Gambia, Domenico Giani, and the Gambian Foreign Affairs Minister, Sering Modou Njie, in the presence of delegations and diplomatic representatives from both sides.

Less than three years after the establishment of diplomatic relations in September 2023, the agreement marks a significant step forward in collaboration between the Order of Malta and the Gambia and confirms the shared desire to develop joint initiatives for the most vulnerable populations, with a particular focus on humanitarian emergency response, health service development and strengthening the resilience of local communities.
