The Venerable Bailiff Fra’ Carlo d’Ippolito di Sant’Ippolito, Grand Commander of the Order of Malta between 2011 and 2014, died in Prato (near Florence) today, 26th December, at the age of 89. He had been sick for some time.

The Lieutenant of the Grand Master Fra’ John T. Dunlap, in mourning his passing, sent his prayers and those of the whole Order of Malta, to Fra’ Carlo’s family.

Born in Naples on May 3, 1933, Carlo d’Ippolito was involved in the work of his family’s farm estates in Calabria, southern Italy. He joined the Order of Malta in 1997. After the death of his beloved wife, he became a Professed member, taking his solemn religious vows in 2005. From 2004 to 2006 he was deputy councilor of the Order’s Board of Auditors. Member of the Sovereign Council from 2006 to 2011 and Grand Commander of the Order of Malta between 2011 and 2014. From 2009 to 2011 he was the President of the Italian Pilgrimages of the Order of Malta and Councilor of the Committee for the International Lourdes Pilgrimage.

In 2012 he was conferred the rank of Bailiff Grand Cross of Justice.

The funeral will be celebrated by Fra’ Giovanni Scarabelli, Grand Cross Conventual Chaplain, tomorrow at 3 pm in the church of Santi Michele e Gaetano in Florence.
