During a long and cordial meeting the Grand Chancellor, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, and Burundi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edouard Bizimana, discussed the bilateral relations initiated at diplomatic level just a few months ago. The Burundian Minister greatly hoped that the Order of Malta would soon start humanitarian activities in his country.
The Grand Chancellor informed the Minister of the imminent appointment of an Order’s ambassador to Burundi. In parallel, the Order will propose a cooperation agreement as a preliminary step for initiating activities of common interest in the country.
Burundi is the 39th African country, out of 54 African Union member states, with which the Order of Malta has established diplomatic relations.
