The Order of Malta’s Grand Chancellor, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, met with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, confirming the Order’s interest in establishing a stable relationship with the League and in establishing diplomatic relations with all its member states. The meeting took place in New York on 26 September, during the opening week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The Grand Chancellor also invited Aboul Gheit to the Magistral Palace in Rome. The Secretary-General in turn expressed his great appreciation of the Order of Malta’s humanitarian activities, particularly in Palestine and Lebanon.

The two parties will continue their dialogue with a view to intensifying exchanges and mutual cooperation.
