Today the Grand Commander of the Sovereign Order of Malta received the Vice President of Bolivia, David Choquehuanca Céspedes. Accompanied by the Ambassador of Bolivia to the Sovereign Order of Malta, Teresa Susana Subieta Serrano, the Vice President was greeted at the Magistral Palace, seat of the Order’s Government, by Grand Commander Fra’ Emmanuel Rousseau, Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo and the Secretary General of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Giampaolo Cantini. The meeting took place more than 20 years after the President of Bolivia’s visit in 2002.
The meeting focussed on global and international issues, with reference to the UN’s sustainable development goals in its 2030 agenda. The national emergency caused by wildfires last summer that destroyed 3 million hectares, the worst since 2010 according to data from the Brazilian Space Research Agency (INPE), was also cited. Measures to support the Bolivian population were then discussed.
Finally, an update to the existing cooperation agreement was proposed as an operational tool to further develop collaboration.
