The Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Fra’ John T. Dunlap, has learned with deep sorrow the news of the serious railway accident in Spain, in Andalusia, where the derailment of two trains near Adamuz, in the province of Córdoba, caused the deaths of 39 people and injuries to over a hundred, in a toll that is still feared to be provisional.

At this moment of profound mourning for the country, Fra’ John Dunlap has sent a message of condolence and solidarity to His Majesty the King of Spain, Felipe VI, expressing his sympathy for the families affected by the tragic event.

The Order of Malta shares the grief of the Spanish people and prays for the eternal rest of the victims with a special thought for the injured, hoping for their swift and full recovery.

The Grand Master also wants to express his appreciation to the rescue teams and healthcare personnel indefatigably engaged in assistance and support operations. Finally, he invites the entire Order’s family to join in spiritual intercession, so that God’s mercy may grant peace to the deceased and comfort to those called upon to face the consequences of this terrible human tragedy.
