Life in the Maha Muni Buddha Vihara Monastery orphanage in Sittwe, Myanmar has greatly improved since Malteser International modernized the plumbing and sanitary fixtures. The rainwater collection scheme has also been improved and a new water and sanitation plan has reorganized the entire system of water tanks and drainage pipes.

The children were informed of what was taking place by means of educational games. Thus both children and adults living and working in the orphanage learnt about the measures to take to improve personal hygiene and maintain the new facilities.
