The Sovereign Order of Malta’s Grand Chancellor, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, today received the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner. The meeting at the Magistral Palace in Rome was an opportunity to present the various migrant and refugee projects the Order of Malta promotes through Malteser International and its national relief bodies.
Commissioner Brunner expressed appreciation for the Order’s work in complex scenarios, stressing the value of respect for human rights and international law as fundamental for the European Union’s commitment to migrants. The Grand Chancellor said the Order of Malta was interested in cooperating with the EU on behalf of migrants and refugees.
Today’s visit is the second meeting between the Sovereign Order of Malta and a member of the current European Commission, after that of 24 January with Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Equality Preparedness and Crisis Management.
