The Sovereign Military Order of Malta mourns the death of its Prelate H.M.R.E. Monsignor Donato de Bonis, Chaplain of Conventual Grand Cross “ad honorem”, on 23 April.

Monsignor De Bonis was born on 13 April 1930 in Pietragalla, Potenza. Prelate of the Order since 11 April 1993, he belonged to the Grand Priory of Naples and Sicily.

The Prelate is the superior of the clergy of the Order with priestly functions, and guides the Chaplains so that in their religious and priestly life and in their apostolate they abide by the discipline and spirit of the Order.

A solemn Mass in memory of Monsignor De Bonis was held on 2 May in the church of S. Maria del Priorato, Villa Malta, on the Aventine, in the presence of the Grand Master of the Order, Fra’ Andrew Bertie.
