Easter baskets for people in need were consecrated on Holy Thursday

The Malteser Relief Service in Ukraine held its annual “Easter basket” event in order to provide festive Easter baskets to 450 residents in need, located in Lviv, Ukraine. The baskets were filled with treats such as Easter cakes, Easter eggs, sausages, ham, butter, and more, in order to help residents feel less lonely during the holidays.

On April 13, the Thursday before Easter, inside the Church of the Resurrection of Christ UGCC, Fr. Andrew Berezovskyy consecrated the Easter baskets. Each year the consecration takes place in advance allowing the Malteser Relief Service in Ukraine to deliver the holiday goodies until Sunday to all the needy people who cannot come to church because of their age or health problems.

The “Easter basket” event is part of a project called “The Charity kitchen”, operating since 1990. The Malteser Relief Service in Ukraine supports the work of two hot food projects that deliver hot meals to the elderly. Every day in different ways, the Malteser Relief Service in Ukraine distributes 120 meals to local inhabitants in need. Overall, “The Charity Kitchen” project provided more than 4 million hot meals.
