The humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank was the focus of today’s meeting of the Order of Malta’s Grand Chancellor, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, with the Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Coordinator of United Nations Emergency Relief, Tom Fletcher.

The Grand Chancellor outlined the Order’s activities to support the people of Gaza City, first by providing food aid and then with a project for a clinic near the Holy Family Church. The Grand Chancellor also described the Order’s work in the West Bank, and in particular the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem for neonatal critical care.

Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher expressed great interest, hoping that collaboration with the Order of Malta will be increased in the main theatres of humanitarian crisis, particularly with regards to Palestine.
