The Sovereign Order of Malta signs agreement with trustees of Caritas Pro Vitae Gradu Charitable Trust

March 11, 2017 – The Government of the Sovereign Order of Malta is pleased to announce that it has signed on 1st March 2017 an agreement with the trustees of the Caritas Pro Vitae Gradu Charitable Trust (CPVG). CPVG is a charitable trust registered with the Charities Commission of New Zealand whose mission is to provide financial support to Roman Catholic Charities.

Under the terms of this agreement, and subject to proper reciprocal due diligence, the CPVG Charitable Trust has accepted to proceed to regular donations to various causes of the Order of Malta worldwide over a period of 7 years.

The donations will in particular help to bring relief to those affected by wars and turmoil in the Middle East, to populations suffering from hunger in Africa and to communities hit by natural disasters, through the humanitarian, medical and social projects of the Order of Malta around the world.

The CPVG Charitable Trust had contacted representatives of the Order during 2011 – 2012 and started making donations to various causes of the Order in 2013 and was then obliged to interrupt its donations due to a legal procedure that was initiated in 2013 and retracted by the Order in 2015.

The Sovereign Order of Malta expresses its gratitude to the trustees of the CPVG charitable trust for recognising the value of the humanitarian work performed by the Order worldwide, for reactivating its donation program for the benefit of those in need and for its integrity and patience shown over the years.

Following the signing of the agreement, the government of the Sovereign Order of Malta has mandated Promontory Financial Group with the task of leading the due diligence process regarding the funds as provided in the framework agreement of March 1. 2017. Promontory has also been entrusted to review and suggest improvements to the existing control and risk-management procedures of the Grand Magistry of the Order.
