The Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Fra’ John Dunlap, took part in the celebrations for the 96th anniversary of the Lateran Pacts at Palazzo Borromeo, seat of the Italian Embassy to the Holy See. The annual bilateral meeting between Italy and the Holy See also celebrates the 41st anniversary of the agreement modifying the Lateran Concordat. On that occasion, the Grand Master greeted the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the Vatican Secretary of State, Card. Pietro Parolin.

The birth of the Order of St. John dates back to around 1048. It was under the leadership of Blessed Fra’ Gerard, founder and first Master, that the religious community became a lay religious order.
