The Sovereign Order of Malta is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilisation.
According to the Constitution, as the religious Superior and Sovereign, he must fully dedicate himself to the development of the works of the Order and to set an example of living by Christian principles, to all the members of the Order of Malta.

In Yei, in southern Sudan, Malteser International has launched training for prison inmates on the prevention of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TB, leprosy and sleeping sickness. The Order of Malta’s relief corps started these courses in July, involving some 100 prisoners and staff.
The project is run in cooperation with local authorities and includes the treatment of these and other diseases; it is planned to visit other prisons with the involvement of hospitals.
