The death is announced of Fra’ Carlo Arditi di Castelvetere

It is with much sadness that we announce the death of Fra’ Carlo Arditi di Castelvetere, Bailiff Grand Cross of Justice, member of the Sovereign Council, on July 9th 2006, in Rome.

A solemn funeral was celebrated at the Cappella Palatina of the Order of Malta in Rome on Tuesday July 11th by Rev. Mgr. Giuseppe Azelio Manzetti, Conventual Chaplain Grand Cross ‘ad honorem’, in the presence of his family, H.M.E.H. the Prince and Grand Master, members of the Sovereign Council and of the Grand Priory of Rome.

Born on August 7th 1922 in Naples, Bailiff Grand Cross of Justice Fra’ Carlo Arditi graduated in law, and became Managing Director of a publishing company.

He was admitted to the Sovereign Order of Malta in 1950 as a Knight of Honour and Devotion, and, after the death of his wife he applied, in 1990, to the category of Justice as a Novice and took temporary vows in 1993, becoming a fully professed knight in perpetual vows in 1995. He was promoted to Bailiff Grand Cross of Justice in 2004.

He was Magistral Commissioner of the Order’s Italian Association, 1992 – 1994.

Bailiff Fra’ Carlo Arditi di Castelvetere was elected to the Sovereign Council by the Chapter General of June 1999 and re-elected by the Chapter General of June 2004 for a new mandate of five years. He was also a very active member of a number of Commissions in the Grand Magistry.

Decorated with the Grand-Officer of the Order pro Merito Melitensi and Grand-Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, he was also Knight Commander with Star of the Papal Order of Saint Gregory the Great.
