On Saturday, 7 December, in the solemn setting of the Vatican Basilica, Pope Francis presided over an Ordinary Public Consistory for the creation of 21 new Cardinals. Among them was Archbishop Angelo Acerbi, Titular Archbishop of Zella and Apostolic Nuncio, Prelate Emeritus of the Order of Malta, who at 99 years and 75 days becomes the oldest Cardinal ever appointed in the history of the Church.
Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap, accompanied by a delegation from the Sovereign Order of Malta, participated in the celebration.
Cardinal Angelo Acerbi delivered an address of homage and thanksgiving to the Holy Father on behalf of all those present. He also expressed his particular gratitude to the Grand Master, stressing the deep bond that unites him with the Order of Malta.
