The Grand Hospitaller of the Order of Malta, Josef D. Blotz, met with the Bavarian State Minister of the Interior, for Sport and Integration, Joachim Herrmann, at the Magistral Palace. The talks provided an opportunity to reaffirm the excellent state of relations and to examine the main scenarios of global humanitarian crises.

During the meeting, there was deep concern about the ongoing conflicts, with a focus on Ukraine, where the Order assists the population with over 60 projects, and Gaza. The Grand Hospitaller described the outcome of his recent visit to the Holy Land in September 2025, where he had met with the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, and German diplomatic authorities to plan the distribution of basic necessities and the establishment a medical clinic in Gaza City.

Josef D. Blotz said he was very grateful to the Federal Government for the constant and strategic support it has provided for the Order’s humanitarian activities in third countries, with particular reference to the funds allocated for the Gaza mission and Lebanon projects.

Minister Herrmann expressed his great appreciation and profound gratitude for the Order of Malta’s work both in Germany and internationally, saying that at this historic moment, when global challenges are intensifying dramatically, the world has even more need of the Order’s contribution and humanitarian action.

The dialogue between the Grand Hospitaller and Minister Herrmann confirms their shared desire to intensify cooperation to respond to the major international emergencies.
