The Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Principality of Andorra, inspired by a shared desire to develop ties of friendship and promote fruitful cooperation between the two States and their peoples on the basis of the principles of equality, recognising the importance of dialogue and collaboration in addressing global challenges, have decided to establish diplomatic relations as of today, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961.
The formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the Principality of Andorra and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta marks a historic and significant step. Both governments are convinced that this act will not only strengthen bilateral ties, but also lay the foundation for a solid and constructive collaboration on the international scene.
In particular, this important step aims to promote joint initiatives in third countries in the field of international development cooperation and humanitarian aid, to contribute effectively and in a coordinated way to the well-being of the most vulnerable populations. This synergy has common historical roots dating back to the Middle Ages, and is based on values that are more current than ever, needing to be reaffirmed, particularly in terms of peace, cooperation and solidarity.
Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, and Foreign Minister Imma Tor Faus, in the presence of the Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta, express their deepest confidence that the establishment of these relations will open a new chapter of friendship and cooperation, bringing tangible benefits and strengthening their role as responsible actors in the international community.
